Small Home Office

Finally....I got my own office space.   A space that is mine, for my use only and I love it.  It's nice to be able to organize all my projects, folders, recipes, etc...in one place that isn't stacked in someone's homework or work papers.  So today, I thought I'd share it with all of you.

My husband, trooper that he is, built this little nook in a corner at the bottom of our stairs.  It has plenty of storage space and is centrally located.  I have four closed cabinet doors that hold all the messy stuff like phone book, office supplies, computer disk, books, etc..

I found these red boxes on sale for 80% off at Hobby Lobby and thought they'd be perfect for storage of small items, as well as the little baskets.  I bought small blackboard labels for the front of the baskets and used numbers to organize them.  I tied them on with raffia.

I have this little red book that I keep all my ideas and things I would like to try to make, read, buy, etc...I've had it for a long time so when I saw the red boxes, it gave me my color scheme.  I always have this book sitting on my desk ready to take notes.  I have a small one in my purse just in case I'm out and need to jot something down.  Guess I need to learn to use my iPhone for this, but I'm a little old school.

I also found this cute, small rooster bulletin board.  It will be perfect to put up notes...that is if I can bring myself to cover him up.  The pen and pencil caddy is really a utensil caddy I use a lot.  It is very sturdy and the small size and color are  perfect for my small desk.  Guess I'll have to get another utensil caddy.

It doesn't take a lot of space to pack a big punch and for me it is just what I needed.  Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you Friday.

Cute Little Chicks

Look what arrived a few days ago at the Post Office for ME!

Aren't they sooo cute?  Every few years we order a new batch of chicks from Meyer Hatchery. When I walked into the Post Office to pick them up you could almost hear them chirping from the parking lot and I believe all the post office employees were glad to see me. lol.

In honor of getting our new chicks, I surprised the family with a soft chicken tablescape on the porch.

The plates are Amber Karma by EURO Ceramica.  I thought they had a straw like feel to them and appropriate since we use straw in our hen house.

The Cute little dome dish on top is actually a butter dish from Home Essentials and Beyond.  I used them to hold our eggs.

For supper we had omelets, oven-browned potatoes, country ham and biscuits made in my small muffin tin.  We love the eggs from our hens.  Home-grown organic eggs have a much richer and deeper flavor than store bought eggs, and hens are fairly easy to raise.

I hope you have a blessed Monday, and I hope to see you Wednesday.  I've just put in my office at the bottom of the stairs and I'm sharing that Wednesday.

Butterflies

I found the cutest little butterfly frames.  They are a gold metal, and had photos cut from a magazine when I bought them.  They had such potential.
I thought I'd paint them an off-white and then lightly sand the edges.  I copied a page from one of my hubby's magazines, Countryside Magazine, then copied pictures of butterflies on this page.  I used a heavy card stock in a marble pattern.  I cut out the butterflies to fit into the frames, put the glass back in, and it was as easy as that.

I had a wall in my hall bathroom that was small and needed a little something.  The top of the bathroom wall is black so the frames stand-out nicely.

Have a fantastic weekend and I hope to see you Monday.

Painted Chair Seats

I'm so excited!  I've just recently purchased a new dining set for my front porch from a neat furniture consignment store, Feather Your Nest.  As soon as I saw it, I instantly fell in love.   It was the perfect size and shape I'd been looking for.  The only problem was the seat cushions were not the color I could use for my porch.

They were however, covered very well.  So...I got this notion that maybe I could paint them.  Why not give it a try?  I was going to recover them anyway.  Maybe it would save me some time and money.

I mixed 1 part acrylic paint to 5 parts water.  I thought this would allow the paint to kind of "dye" the fabric and let the pattern come through.  I thought it would also leave the fabric softer to sit on...and...it worked.

It took two coats of paint.  I allowed it to dry in between coats and I like how you can see the fabric pattern through the black paint. And, at least for now, I can live with the solid black seats.
I am also thinking of lightly sanding the top of the table and staining a darker color or maybe painting with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint.   What do you think?  I would love to have some advice to help me decide.  I love the pattern of wood on the top but I'm thinking it needs to be restained or painted.
Thanks for stopping by the porch.  I hope to see you Friday and don't forget to give me some advice in the comments, it would be much appreciated.  Have a fantastic hump day.

Picnic in the Pasture

Eating supper at the edge of the pasture is a treat.  Not too far from the house to get the food to the table, but far enough to feel we were on a picnic.

My mom has a beautiful pink Camellia bush growing in the edge of her woods so she let me steal a few of the pretty pink blossoms for our table.  The table is set in the shade near a few rose bushes so we can enjoy the color and scent.

I love using crystal with silver.  I also love collecting this aluminum ware.

Chicken and Dumplings were on the menu with white wine.

The sun was shining bright on the table when I was setting it, not quite in the shade yet....so sparkly.

Wishing you a bright sunny week and I hope to see you Wednesday.
